On Your Bike

With all the great weather we’ve been having it’s time to enjoy the great outdoors. With another bank holiday weekend just around the corner, make some plans for how to spend your time here on the Island. There is nowwhere quite like Anglesey in late spring.

Anglesey is a great place to explore on two wheels. With a change of pace, you get the chance to take in the rolling landscapes and stunning scenery, plus you can stop where you want along the way. There is everything from the tough “Round Anglesey Challenge” to short, simple, family friendly rides that are perfect for all ages.

The famous Tour de Mon is hosted by extreme event specialists Always Aim High and takes place in August every year. It takes cyclists right through the village of Dulas and over 1000 cyclists descend on the Island to battle it out for the winning jersey. It’s one to aim for if you are keen!

Always Aim High host many unique, outdoor events throughout the year, perfect for those who like to take things up a notch. Not everyone likes to spend their days lying on the beach you know! Look out for the Anglesey Trail Half Marathon and the Sandman Torch Light Trail later in the year.

We have found Sustrans to be a great source of information. The National Cycle Network lists a great many routes to choose from. A great route is the Lon Las Cefni a great easy ride of around 11 miles that’s almost free of traffic and a great scenic ride.

Visit Anglesey have produced a handy leaflet that lists a great many routes to try including The Copper Trail which is easily accessed from your cottage. Download your pdf here and get on your bike!
